What to do in Tokyo and Kyoto ?

2007-09-09-70552.jpeg

Will be going to Japan, Tokyo and Kyoto on the Oct 26th to Nov 3rd. I do have a few stuff plan on what to do when i’m there. But i’m not sure if i might missed anything out or not or whether did i even thought of doing it. I need help and i hope the wealth of knowledge in the blogosphere can help me to it.

So who’s going ? Basically 3 guys , 1 girl and maybe another girl. The break down is ,

  • Me (otaku)
  • Friend (otaku)
  • Friend’s sister (GOING SANRIO LAND!)
  • Sister’s Husband (otaku)
  • Sister’s Gal pal

The trip is broken down into ,

  • 26th – 27th(1/2) : Tokyo :D
  • 27th(1/2) – 29th : Kyoto
  • 30th Oct – 3rd Nov(1/2) : Tokyo
  • 3rd Nov(1/2) : Singapore :(

Budget wise , pretty tight for me and my friend at least. This trip is considered a pretty sudden trip so i have S$1,500 worth or US$1000(+/-) to spare which have to include ;

  • Kyoto transportation which includes “Tokyo to Kyoto and back”
  • Kyoto Stay ( 3 day 2 N ) ?
  • Tokyo transportation
  • FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD
  • minimal spending on “otaku” stuff, (I KNOW IS HARD TO DO SO)

You could help by pointing me directions on what to do/where to eat and stuff like that , will do me great. Best if you could give me some local advise on where to go/eat. Oh, if you know of a great photography spots , do let me know too!

Anyway , i thank you guys (and gals!) for help.

If you think you could be a smart person and google some information for me , I’ve googled many days already. There’s just some information that google still can’t access these days.

By any chance anyone heading(or already) there around my dates? If so , let me know in the comments ! maybe we could meet up or something.  Cheers!

I can’t offer advice on Kyoto since I haven’t been there yet.

Tokyo on the other hand, maybe. $1,500 is a decent budget by my standards. I spent ~$700 in a week for accomodation, food and trains. Then again, I did lots of walking and DIY dining. :P

You could visit nileguide.com for a personalized itenary to cater to each person’s taste. Since this is everyone’s first visit(?) I suggest going to the typical tourist spots to be on the safe side. As for otaku products, you’d probably already know where to go. Lots of 2nd hand stores in Akiba, with Mandrake, K-books and Book-Off having the widest range and lowest prices.

Photography wise, the usual spots will do since I guess there will be plenty of group shots. There are plenty of subjects to burn through your memory card since everything is new to you. Having a good time with the group is more important. :)

(BTW, the last time I visited in end October, Autumn leaves had yet to “bloom” and it rained a whole lot. Then again, it was typhoon season…)

Food wise, I could survive on Yoshinoya all the way if I had to since it’s quite value 4 $. If you do live in a hostel with cooking facilities it’ll be better cos u can cook a meal each day to save even more $.
1 place I’ll suggest going is the studio Ghibli museum but be prepared to go get the tickets on the 1st day you get to Japan since there’s limited tickets daily. The tickets can be obtained @ Lawsons
